Son of bitch! Warner Bros. has removed director Gary Dauberman’s feature film adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot from its release calendar! I got to see a trailer for this movie at CinemaCon, and it was one of the best things that I saw at the event. That trailer got me incredibly pumped up for the film, and I was ridiculously excited to see it. Well, now I don’t know if I’m going to get that chance.
Salem's Lot was supposed to open in theaters on April 21st, 2023 and now it sits with no release date. WB better not shelve this one! It’s reportedly still in post production, though. The studio recently pushed back the release dates for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and Shazam: Fury of the Gods.
There is some good news, though. Evil Dead Rise is going to be released in theaters instead of on HBO Max! That film has moved into the spot vacated by Salem’s Lot, April 21, 2023. So while the fate of Salem’s Lot is now in limbo, at least we’ll get to enjoy Evil Dead Rise in theaters!
Lewis Pullman (Bad Times at the El Royale, Top Gun: Maverick) stars in Salem’s Lot, and he will take on the role of author Ben Mears, “a man who returns to his childhood home of Jerusalem’s Lot in search of inspiration for his next book only to discover his hometown is being preyed upon by a vampire, leading him to band together with a ragtag group that will fight the evil presence.”
The movie also stars Jordan Preston Carter as Mark Petrie, Alfre Woodard as Dr. Cody, Makenzie Leigh as Susan Norton, John Benjamin Hickey as Father Callahan, William Sadler in an as of now unannounced role.
Evil Dead Rise was directed by Lee Cronin, and it tells “a twisted tale of two estranged sisters, played by Sutherland and Sullivan, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.”
The movie stars Alyssa Sutherland (Vikings) and Lily Sullivan (Picnic at Hanging Rock).
