At one point in his career, director James Gunn attempted to make a Hitman movie. Has actually pitched a Hitman film right before he landed his Guardians of the Galaxy gig at Marvel, the movie that would change the trajectory of his career.
The director responded to a question on Twitter from a fan asking about which video game series would make a great film and he responded with the following:
"Weeks before I got Guardians I pitched a Hitman movie. The studio really wanted to hire me, but a producer on the project did not. I was bummed then, but thank God, because I would have never been able to do GotG if they had said yes!"
I bet that producer that rejected Gunn is kicking himself in the ass. Everything worked out for Gunn in the end, though, thanks to Guardians. But, I would love to see what Gunn would have done with a Hitman movie! I love that video game franchise, and unfortunately, we never got a great film adaptation.
Gunn wanted an R-rated Hitman movie, but the producers wanted a PG-13 movie, which is ridiculous because the video game is filled with R-rated content. I don’t know how some of these Hollywood executives and producers end up in their positions. Many of them seem to lack so much common sense.
Would you have liked to see James Gunn make a Hitman movie?
