Last week we learned that producer Dan Lin (It: Chapter One, It: Chapter Two) was in talks with the studio to come in and take charge of DC. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has been looking for the right person to lead the charge for DC’s film and TV units, but it’s been confirmed that that person will not be Dan Lin.
According to CNBC, Lin rejected the offer. It’s explained that Lin is staying at his Rideback company. So I guess it’s back to the drawing board and Zaslav will continue to search for a big name to attempt to take DC Entertainment to the next level.
Lin’s Rideback has a deal at Universal, and it’s explained that “Warner Bros would have had to fold Rideback within the studio or work something else out.” This is one of many reasons why the deal didn't work.
It was previously reported that there is a 10-year plan laid out that Zaslav hopes will allow the brand to actually compete with what Marvel Studios has been doing. Zaslav said, “We think we can build a much stronger, sustainable growth business out of DC. As part of that, we are going to focus on quality. We are not going to release any film before it’s ready…DC is something we can make better.”
Whoever ends up in this executive role at WB “would bypass three separate division heads Warner Bros. Pictures’ heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, HBO/HBO Max chief Casey Bloys, and Warner Bros. TV chair Channing Dungey — and put control of DC in the hands of one person.”
