When that first trailer for Marvel’s Werewolf by Night dropped, I was not expecting what I saw, and I loved it! That trailer teased a film that would be a throwback to the classic black-and-white horror movies of the ‘30s and ‘40s, and I love those films! They don’t make movies like that anymore, then all of a sudden here comes Marvel and director Michael Giacchino looking to experiment with that style and have some bloody fun with it!

I’m excited to tell you that Werewolf by Night is the awesome monster movie that I hoped it would be! The creative team really committed to that classic horror movie style, and from start to finish, I was captivated and had an absolute blast watching this dark story play out!

The story centers on a group of monster hunters who are gathered together to hunt down and kill a deadly creature. The hunter that manages to take down the monster and survive the night will be rewarded with the position to lead the group of monster hunters. I won’t get into any more details regarding the story than that. I’ll let you just experience it for yourself when you watch the movie.

I enjoyed the whole vibe of the series, and I especially enjoyed how they handled the monsters, specifically Gael García Bernal‘s Werewolf by Night. When he makes his transformation, things are taken to a new level of awesomeness. The way they handled this was perfect! It really does honor those classic horror films of the past. But, they do update a few things, like the action sequences.

I’ll just say, that I’ve never seen a werewolf fight like that before! There are also some great sequences involving some unexpected violence, blood, and gore for a Marvel project. I think they felt a bit more comfortable doing that kind of stuff with the whole black-and-white aspect of the film. I mean, there are a couple of instances where it gets into Kill Bill violence territory, which I wasn’t expecting.

Werewolf by Night is easily one of my favorite Marvel projects. Its style, storytelling, characters, and content just captured my attention. Giacchino did a hell of a job with this movie, and I hope to see him directing more films in the future! The cast of the film also included Laura Donnelly as Elsa Bloodstone, Harriet Sansom Harris as Verusa, Leonardo Nam as Simon, Eugenie Bondurant as Linda, Kirk R. Thatcher as Jovan, and Jaycob Maya as Jake Gomez. They were all great as the characters they played.

I hope you all have just as much fun as I did watching Werewolf by Night!
