Dwayne Johnson has been hyping up DC’s Black Adam movie every chance he gets. This is one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year! The question is, does it live up to the hype? Well, a bunch of critics recently had the opportunity to watch the movie and many of them have shared their reactions on social media.
It’s a mixed bag of thoughts from those who saw the film. While some enjoyed the hell out of it, some people had problems with it. For the most part, though, it seems like the consensus is that it’s a fun and entertaining action movie. That’s pretty much what I was expecting from the film.
Read through the reactions below and let us know what you think!
#BlackAdam is a game-changer!! This is the #DCComics movie I’ve been waiting for & it did not disappoint. @TheRock is electrifyingly brutal as Black Adam! This is what I wanted Black Adam to be. The action in the film is non-stop & seeing the #JSA on the big screen was a thrill! pic.twitter.com/NigTxsfmd7

Black Adam was a great watch, I enjoyed seeing all of the characters interact and I liked seeing how they navigated the grey area that #BlackAdam operates in and @TheRock does so amazingly. Dr Fate and Hawkman were brilliant & it was amazing seeing their characters come to life!

DC’s #BlackAdam ROCKS! Tons of action, characters you’re instantly invested in & terrific pacing. Dwayne Johnson finds a great balance in being menacing & badass, but also empathetic. Especially loved Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman & Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate. More JSA movies please! pic.twitter.com/YSCco9zYA3

Black Adam is the best superhero film of 2022 so far because it delivers exactly what it promises and fans are looking for. The story works as a great introduction to title character & the JSA. I can see fans going back for seconds or thirds. In other words, #BlackAdam rocks!

I have seen #BlackAdam! This was one of my most anticipated films of the year, and it did not disappoint. The action sequences were incredible, especially the ones with the JSA. The Rock crushes it as Black Adam. The film’s end left me with high hopes for the future of the DCEU. pic.twitter.com/vd0Zy35lWT

#BlackAdam is a worthy new piece of the DC puzzle, but not the savior it promised.

A surprising compressed timeline keeps the action exciting & pace propulsive, but also turns its many (many) themes, plots, & characters into fancy window dressing. It's messy in a watchable way. pic.twitter.com/uwZUb2hbiM
#BlackAdam is DC's most action-packed film to date. It's a non-stop thrill ride that is all about spectacle, and it knows it. Ther3 is barely anytime to breath, or even talk. @TheRock is a perfect Black Adam, plus Pierce Brosnon is a standout. The film will leave fans buzzing! pic.twitter.com/HxCYYNw71w

Senior Writer @artbyatlas0 saw #BLACKADAM! He says the film is @TheRock’s best performance to date & gives the titular character his just due.

He also says that Pierce Brosnan’s #DoctorFate is the heart of the JSA and an absolute scene-stealer.
Premieres 10/21! pic.twitter.com/eQSEoBptl3
.@TheRock is terrific in #BlackAdam, which includes a hearty amount of real world touchstones (most affecting is it reinforces the need for heroes in bleak times). Director Juame Collet-Serra lays out building blocks for a larger, grand universe. Action is lively & BIG in scale. pic.twitter.com/pDBkSHRDrI

#BlackAdam is built on some epic, non-stop action. It made me want a sequel with a smoother story immediately.

When it moves, it’s a straight shot of adrenaline. The characters are dope, especially Teth-Adam and Doctor Fate. It’s a bad-ass film. pic.twitter.com/XeMFgcB3OG
#BlackAdam struggles to find its footing at first but once the Justice Society enters it becomes more fun to watch. Dwayne Johnson’s anti-hero presents an intriguing new dynamic to the DCEU. Solid visual effects. Weak villain. Post-credits scene got the biggest reaction of all. pic.twitter.com/qbVmWkYLjv

#BlackAdam isn’t perfect but the potential is there. The script lacks character depth and while @TheRock looks the part, leaves a lot to be desired. Dr. Fate & Hawkman steal the show as the perfect duo. Ultimately, the big hero scenes are badass yet it fails on the story. pic.twitter.com/D2tt21Dhax

Had to go through metal detectors for the Black Adam NY screening. Pity it’s bad - no emotional depth, zero sense of peril for the main character and dull CGI battles. #BlackAdam pic.twitter.com/gUjxHy1oUO

Here’s the synopsis:
In ancient Kahndaq, Teth Adam was bestowed the almighty powers of the gods. After using these powers for vengeance, he was imprisoned, becoming Black Adam. Nearly 5,000 years have passed and Black Adam has gone from man, to myth, to legend. Now released, his unique form of justice, born out of rage, is challenged by modern day heroes who form the Justice Society: Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher and Cyclone.
Black Adam stars Dwayne Johnson, Aldis Hodge (Underground, The Invisible Man), who plays Hawkman in the film; Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Charlie's Angels) as Atom Smasher; Quintessa Swindell (Trinkets, Euphoria) as Cyclone; and Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye, Mamma Mia!) as Doctor Fate, as well as Sarah Shahi (Person of Interest, The L Word), Marwan Kenzari (The Old Guard, Aladdin), and Uli Latukefu (Young Rock), who have been cast in unspecified roles.
Jaume Collet-Serra (Jungle Cruise) is directing Black Adam, from the most recent script, written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. Adam Sztykiel wrote the previous draft.
Black Adam is set to hit theaters on October 21st, 2022.
