There’s no doubt that director James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is going to be a bittersweet end for fans. That was the experience that the cast had while shooting it, and in a recent interview with EW, Zoe Saldana, who plays Gamora, shared what it was like for her to shoot the film.

She first explains that it started out bitter, but added that it ended up being a sweet departure. Here’s what she said:

“[Filming] started bitter in the beginning cause obviously you’re anticipating the end, but I’m just so happy that once again I got to work with great people. I had an evolution that I witnessed of myself, but also my director and my cast. I just felt very blessed and grateful. It was a very sweet departure, I have to say.”

The last time that we saw Gamora was in Avengers: Endgame, which saw her fight alongside Captain Marvel, Wasp, Valkarie, Pepper Potts, Wanda, Mantis, and Shuri as they teamed up to protect the Nano Gauntlet. Saldana talked about her experience of filming that scene saying:

“Obviously, we knew it was going to be special, and we were feeling ourselves every time the Russos would say, ‘Action!' But what I can remember — and these are the nuggets of life that make me feel so human and keep me grounded — is that we were just complaining about how uncomfortable our costumes were, our makeup, our wigs, how cold the set was, how much we didn’t want to be there, how much we wanted to be there. So we were just being girls, you know? Going together and acting tough [through that] was also very special.”

The Gamora that now exists in the MCU is not the same one that Peter Quill formed a relationship with. That Gamroa died, and this Gamora is from the past and has no idea who Peter Quill is, which is super hard for Peter! It’s going to be really interesting to see how that aspect of the story plays out.

I know a lot of fans want to see something work out between them, but personally, I don’t see it happening. This version of Gamora is just such a different person, and you can’t force that relationship to work. It’s going to be a bummer to see, but I just think that will be the reality of it.

What do you all think? Do you think this version of Gamora and Star-Lord will end up getting together in Guardians Vol. 3?
