Actor Gary Oldman is looking to retire in the near future when he’s finished with his current spy thriller series project Slow Horses. The legendary actor has starred in films such as Harry Potter, The Dark Knight Trilogy, The Fifth Element, Darkest Hour, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and more. After a long career of playing great and memorable characters in all kinds of film and TV projects, he’s ready to move on. Oldman shared with The Times:
"I've had an enviable career, but careers wane, and I do have other things that interest me outside of acting. When you're young, you think you're going to get round to doing all of them — read that book — then the years go by. I'm 65 next year; 70 is around the corner. I don't want to be active when I'm 80. I'd be very happy and honoured and privileged to go out as Jackson Lamb [his character in Slow Horses] — and then hang it up."
Slow Horses is based on the "Slough House" series of novels by Mick Herron. The story follows a dysfunctional team of MI5 agents and their obnoxious boss, the notorious Jackson Lamb, as they navigate the espionage world's smoke and mirrors to defend England from sinister forces.
The second season will be released soon, and it’s already been renewed for the third and fourth seasons. We don’t know if Oldman will still be involved when those seasons come around, but when he’s done with this show, he’s obviously ready to enjoy retirement. He’s certainly earned it!
