Director Rian Johnson has done it again! He’s made another fantastically fun murder mystery movie with Glass Onion: A Knives Out Story. This is the sequel to the 2019 film Knives Out, and I thought that the sequel was even better than the first flick! This one was so much more fun, and it had such a vastly different tone. Johnson is having a blast telling these whodunit stories, and with this sequel, you can see that he’s gotten better at telling them.

In the new story Daniel Craigis back in the role of Southern detective Benoit Blanc, and he ends up being invited to a private island in Greece by a tech billionaire named Miles Bron. Bron also invited a group of close friends to play a murder mystery game, where they have to solve his own murder. Blanc is put on the case to peel back the layers of a mystery involving a new cast of colorful suspects.

Now that little description of the story is super vague because I’m not going to spoil anything for you. But I will say that there is so much more to the story, and it’s filled with lots of great and surprising twists and turns that some people might not see coming. Johnson gets awesomely creative with this story, and while it keeps audiences on the edge of their seats, it also features lots of laughs!

The comedy in this movie had me and the rest of the audience busting up in laughter, and one of the main reasons for that were the colorful characters and the acotrs who were cast to bring them to life. That cast includes also Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, and Madelyn Cline, with Kate Hudson and Dave Bautista. Everyone was perfectly cast in the roles that they played.

Johnson certainly has a knack for telling these murder mystery stories. His writing is so fun! The guy just has a talent for writing great dialogue for these stories, and he also has precise direction. To be able to effectively pull off the crazy complicated story he set out to tell, his direction has to be perfect.

Look, I know a lot of people aren’t fans of Johnson because of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but the guy sure does know how to make an awesome murder mystery film! If you liked the first movie, you’re gonna love this sequel If you have seen it, let us know what you thought!
