The end of 2022 is here and it’s that time to share my list of favorite movie and TV projects of the year! Let me tell you, it was no easy task narrowing it down to just 20 favorites. But after much debate, hand-wringing, and possibly a few tears, I present to you my top 20 movies and TV shows of the year. These are the projects that blew my mind, stole my heart, kept me on the edge of my seat, and left a lasting impression on me. So without further ado, let's dive into them!

Top Gun: Maverick

Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick is one of the greatest movies ever made! You can find that quote of mine on the cover of every Blu-ray and 4K Ultra disc that is out there. This movie just completely blew me away! It was one of the greatest movie-going experiences that I’ve ever had! Of course, it going to be at the top of my list!

Everything Everywhere All at Once

Everything Everywhere All at Once was one of the big surprise hits of the year. I enjoyed the hell out of this movie and had a smile from ear to ear from beginning to end. The movie was an insane action-packed film that was visually stunning, but what I liked most about it was its heartfelt and emotional story.

Star Wars: Andor

This is easily one of the best Star Wars projects that has ever been made. Andor was a very different kind of Star Wars project that was gritty, grounded, and smart. It treated Star Wars fans with respect and delivered an engaging, thrilling, and unique story for a Star Wars project. I hope we see more Star Wars projects like this!

Elvis

As a longtime fan of Elvis, this was a movie that I was very much looking forward to seeing. This Baz Luhrmann-directed film exceeded my expectations! This was a great movie and Austin Butler’s Elvis Presley performance floored me, he was so damn good! I went through a lot of emotions while watching this movie!

Werewolf By Night

This is the only Marvel project that will make my list this year! Why? Because it was the best thing that Marvel Studios released in 2022! Werewolf by Night got me excited about Marvel projects again! As a fan of older horror movies, I loved how this paid homage to those. This just made me happy and I hope Marvel does more experimental projects like this!

The Black Phone

Scott Derrick’s The Black Phone was such a thrilling, edge-your-seat moving going experience! I enjoyed the hell out of the story and the characters. But, it was the extreme nail-biting intensity that I loved most, and the way the film ended was so, so satisfying. I enjoyed the cheers of the crowd in the theater during the climax of the film.

The Batman

Matt Reeve’s The Batman is going on my list! I just loved his dark, grounded, and gritty take on the Dark Knight. It was unlike any Batman movie that I’ve seen before and Robert Pattinson was freakin’ great in the role! It was easily the best comic book movie released in theaters this year.

The Banshees of Inisherin

Collin Ferrell and Brendan Gleason are back together again in another dark comedy from director Martin McDonagh. This is such a talented and creative team and this movie offered enjoyable quirky and dark entertainment, and it was just so different and unique. Then, of course, there was the brilliant acting!

The Fabelmans

This Steven Spielberg-directed movie really resonated with me. There were so many relatable aspects of the story and I connected to it in very strong and profound ways. This movie stuck with me days after I watched it. Shortly after the first time, I watched it again so that I could continue to soak the story in. The film is based on Spielberg’s young life, and he did an amazing job telling that story!

The Northman

This Viking dark revenge thriller was visually stunning and it told a wild, trippy, ferocious, and poetic story. I was completely engulfed in the story that this film told and it has some unexpected twists and turns that led to a brutal sword fight on an erupting volcano!

Barbarian

This was such a huge surprise! I had no idea what was in store for this movie. I didn’t know much about it, I had no expectations when I walked into the theater to watch it, and it ended up being such an awesomely fun edge of my seat movie-going experience! The movie had me guess what was going to happen right to the very end!

The Outfit

This is a small-period mob crime noir thriller, but it sure does pack quite a punch! The story kept me on the edge of my seat and I loved how it played out. I especially enjoyed how the movie ended and Mark Rylance gave such a great performance!

Extraordinary Attorney Woo

This Korean series about an autistic attorney making her way through life came out of nowhere! I came across it on Netflix by accident, started to watch it, and it immediately hooked me. It was just such an incredibly charming feel-good series with an amazingly adorable character. I loved this series and if you haven’t seen it, you have to watch it!

The Bear

When I started watching The Bear on Hulu, I had no idea what to expect, but once I started watching, I couldn’t stop! I was completely hooked and engulfed in the story and the characters were just so wonderfully interesting. The writing on the show was also top notch. The Bear is one of the best shows of the year.

1883

Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone spinoff series 1883 is one of the best westerns that has been made in a long time and it gives us one of the most accurate portrayals of what it was like for the Pioneers to travel to the west across the plains. This was such a well-written series and I enjoyed the great characters that were introduced.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio

This was such a beautifully told story and the most unique adaptation of Pinocchio that has been made. I was very pleased with Guillermo del Toro’s vision of this story, and the visual style of it, along with the stop-motion animation made this project something special. But, it was the heart and soul of the story and characters that made this movie so great.

Wednesday

Tim Burton’s Netflix series was just plain fun and Jenna Ortega in the title role of Wednesday Addams gave such a wickedly charming performance! I’ve been a fan of The Addams Family franchise over the years and this latest entry in it simply entertained the hell out of me!

The Offer

As a fan of Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather films, I was excited to watch a series that told the story of how the first film was made, and it turned out to be a great show! It made me want to see more shows that focus on the making of classic movies, especially films that have fascinating and crazy behind-the-scenes stories.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

This is my new favorite Star Trek series! I thought Picard was going to be my favorite Star Trek show and while it’s good, Strange New Worlds ended up being so much better! It reminded me a lot of the original Star Trek show with its tone and stories, but at the same time, it offered a fresh take on the franchise that works.

Cha Cha Real Smooth

This is a wonderful uplifting coming-of-age story that left me feeling incredibly happy by the time it ended. This was the feel-good movie of the year that was filled with many charming and heartfelt moments and it did a great job capturing the ups and downs of life. I also loved the main character and it had you rooting for him throughout the film.

Let us know what are some of your favorite movies and TV shows of 2022 are! What would you recommend to people!?
