The directors of Scream VI are promising that this next entry in the film franchise is going to be a very different experience than the other Scream movies that we’ve seen. One of the biggest changes is the setting, as this next chapter of the story will take place in New York City.

The directors are now teasing some other things that will set this movie apart from the others including the new version of Ghostface that the survivors from the last film will be facing off with, and the crazy fast pacing of the movie. When talking about Ghostface, co-director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin told Total Film:

"We wanted to make this really different, while still having all the stuff you love. Having a bolder, more brazen Ghostface was a big part of that."

It was previously teased by Melissa Barrera that things were definitely going to be gorier in this movie as Ghostface is out on his killing spree. She said:

"There was a saying on set because (directors) Matt [Bettinelli-Olpin] and Tyler [Gillett] were always asking for more blood and more sweat. They always just wanted more. 'More blood spritz' was the saying because they would just always want more. With the last Scream, they were tip-toeing and trying to be very respectful of what the franchise had been, up until that point, and keeping their inner gory dreams at bay. But with this one, they were like, 'We're going all out.' It's potentially a hundred times gorier."

Co-director Tyler Gillett goes on to talk about the pacing of the movie and how that has also been ramped up to the next level. In fact, he says the new movie will move like it’s on rocket fuel and that means they had to sacrifice the fun meta-humor that makes the Scream franchise unique. He said:

"It really moves like it's on rocket fuel. You sit down, it starts, and the movie is just a ride. You get off two hours later, and you feel like you haven't taken a breath.

"This starts, and it just goes. So there aren't really these large pockets to talk about other movies. It of course has all of the fun nods and meta-commentary. But we really loved how accelerated this story is. It felt like a reflection of how accelerated the process of making it was."

This is going to be interesting to see. I hope it’s good, I hope that it doesn’t just slip into what generic horror has become. Making a horror movie more brutal, faster, and gorier, doesn’t make a movie better. Hopefully, they manage to keep the heart and soul of what makes the Scream franchise special.

The next chapter of the horror saga “continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.”

The cast also includes Jenna Ortega as Tara Carpenter, Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy, Mason Gooding as Chad, Samara Weaving, Liana Liberato, Hayden Panettiere as Kirby, and Dermot Mulroney. Courteney Cox also previously confirmed her involvement. Some newcomers include actor Dermot Mulroney and Mission: Impossible star Henry Czerny, plus Jack Champion (Avengers: Endgame, Avatar: The Way of Water), Liana Liberato (Light as a Feather), Devyn Nekoda (Sneakerella), and Josh Segarra (Arrow's Adrian Chase).

Scream VI will be bringing Ghostface back to theaters on March 10, 2023.
