Last year, Free League successfully funded a Kickstarter campaign to revive the Swedish tabletop RPG Drakar och Demoner, but now there’s an English version releasing worldwide called Dragonbane. The game looks like it could be a lot of fun and pretty easy to pick up. While the Kickstarter has ended, it is still allowing late pledges so you should be able to still grab a copy with an expected delivery of August 2023. That being said, there’s also a free Quickstart Guide you can access complete with five pre-generated characters to really jump into the action fast.
I’ve had a quick perusal of the Dragonbane Quickstart Guide and it’s promising. First, one of my favorite things is that one of the Kin (their term for species or race) is a freaking Mallard making it 100% possible to play in Duckburg without third parties making it. Other highlights that I’ve found are that it takes inspiration from Call of Cthulhu in the fact you are trying to roll lower than whatever your skill level is in order to succeed, and you can push your rolls in addition to taking a Condition. Another cool aspect is that Initiative is determined by drawing cards from a stack and it is determined every round! There’s a lot more that’s cool, so definitely take a look.
