It turns out that some of the comments made by DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran during their big DC film slate announcement event didn’t go over very well with Warner Bros.
One of the comments that came from Gunn involved Henry Cavill. In that comment, he said: “For me, for this story, it isn’t Henry. I like Henry. He’s a great guy. I think he’s gotten dicked around by a lot of people, including former regimes of this company. But this Superman isn’t Henry for a number of reasons.”
Gunn also talked about the f**ked up past of DC films, saying: “As everyone here probably knows, the history of DC is pretty messed up, it was f**ked up. No one was minding the mint. They were just giving away IP like they were party favors to any creators that smiled at them.”
Then there are the comments made by Safran involving the canceled Batgirl movie, when he said: “But that film was not releasable, and it happens sometimes. That film was not releasable… It would have hurt DC. It would have hurt those people involved.”
According to THR, these comments “were not exactly tactful” and “there’s been quite a few ruffled feathers” from them. It turns out that the “previous regime” that are mentioned, are actually some of the same people who are currently still helping run things at Warner Bros.
As you’ve seen, Gunn and Safran don’t really filter what’s on their minds and Gunn has said that he wants to be open and honest with everyone as they move forward with their DC movie plans. Sometimes the truth hurts! You’d think these studio executives would have thicker skin. I mean, Gunn isn’t wrong.
