During the Academy Award ceremony, Disney released the full trailer for its upcoming remake of The Little Mermaid, and it offers us our best look yet at what this movie has to offer. As you’ll see, this movie is pretty much going to be a shot-for-shot remake of the classic animated film.

Halle Bailey stars in the film as Ariel and it looks like she’s going to give a charming performance. One thing is for sure, she’s got a great voice and she’s going to do an awesome job performing the classic songs that we all know and love.

The trailer also offers a first look at several of the other characters in the movie including Ursula, Sebastian, Scuttle, and more! The movie comes from director Rob Marshall, and this is the synopsis:

The beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.

The film also stars Jonah Hauer-Kingas Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Daveed Diggs (Hamilton, Snowpiercer) as the voice of Sebastian; Jacob Tremblay (Luca) as the voice of Flounder; Awkwafina (Raya and the Last Dragon) as the voice of Scuttle; Art Malik (Homeland) as Sir Grimsby; Noma Dumezweni (Mary Poppins Returns) as Queen Selina; and Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men) as King Triton.

The film will also include new original songs composed by Alan Menken and Diggs' Hamilton co-star Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The Little Mermaid will hit theaters on May 26, 2023.
