It has long been reported that Dolly Parton is one of the main forces behind Buffy The Vampire Slayer getting made and that without her, it may not have happened. Well, this is all true, as Parton was an unofficial producer on the series through her Sandollar production company, which she launched with her former manager and friend Sandy Gallin.

In a past interview with Buffy star Sarah Michelle Gellar, she confirmed Parton’s involvement and talked about what that involvement was like. While talking with Jimmy Fallon, Gellar shared:

“Little known fact, the legend Dolly Parton was a producer, and you know, we never saw her. We’d get Christmas gifts in the beginning that would have our name and I would think, ‘She doesn’t know who I am.’ And then one day somebody asked her about it and she complimented the show and my performance. And I was like ‘Oh, I can die now. Dolly Parton knows who I am and thinks I’m good.’ Her partner was Sandy Gallin and they produced Buffy.”

I love that! This is such a fun little bit of trivia, and it’s not the first time something like this has happened in Hollywood where a legend helps get a project up and running. Back in the 60s, Lucille Ball played a role in launching shows like The Twilight Zone and Star Trek! Legends launching shows that would become legends!

Parton also previously talked about Buffy The Vampire Slayer on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, in which she said, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a wonderful little show. I was very very proud to be part of that.”

And here’s a little bit of trivia you may not have known… Buffy’s birthday is the same as Dolly Parton’s… January 19th, so there is a fun little homage.
