Another live-action Star Wars series has officially gone into production with Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Acolyte and Disney+ has announced the full cast and shared a behind-the-scenes photo.

The cast includes Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give), Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Manny Jacinto (Nine Perfect Strangers), Dafne Keen (His Dark Materials), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll), Dean-Charles Chapman (1917) and Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix).

The Acolyte is described as a “mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.”

The High Republic is set 200 years before the Skywalker Saga begins. This is an interesting era that has only been explored in a series of books and comics so far. It is the golden age of the Jedi, when the Jedi were at their strongest and the Sith were believed to have been eradicated from the galaxy. The term “acolyte” refers to individuals with Force abilities who learn from a more experienced Sith Lord.

It was also previously explained that the show “specifically explores the rise of the Dark Side in those final days of the High Republic era.” The series is also said to explore some major Sith characters from Star Wars Legends.

The series was created by Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) who also serves as showrunner, executive producer, and she’s directing the pilot episode. She is now deep in production on the film in the U.K. The executive producers are Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King and Jason Micallef. Rayne Roberts and Damian Anderson are producing.

The Acolyte will stream exclusively on Disney+.
