The infamous Arthur Mitchell, better known as Trinity Killer, who was introduced in Dexter Season 4, could be getting his own spinoff series on Showtime! Yes, you heard that right, the fan-favorite Dexter villain might be making a comeback in a new show, according to recent reports.

The report comes from The Wall Street Journal, and Showtime is considering spinoffs based on the backstories of other compelling characters from the franchise as well. They say: "Showtime is also exploring separate spinoffs based on the back stories of compelling Dexter characters, including one known as the Trinity Killer."

Despite John Lithgow's iconic portrayal, it seems unlikely he'll return to the role as Trinity Killer met his demise in the original series and Lithgow has aged 15 years since filming. So, this would have to be a prequel series and a younger actor would have to be cast in the role.

It was also previously revealed that we might get a prequel series based on Dexter's younger years, and if that happens, it will be the first. I like the idea of exploring the past of the Trinity KIller, though! He has an interesting past, and this is how his history is detailed:

Arthur Mitchell was born in Tampa, Florida, and lived in a two-story house for most of his young life. One day in 1959, an event forever scarred him. As a curious ten-year-old boy, he stood in the bathroom doorway, watching his elder sister, Vera, take a shower. When she noticed him in the mirror, she slipped, shattering the shower doors. A shard of glass sliced her leg and she bled out in front of him.

It was a hard blow to the entire family, and they moved to Miami. His mother, Marsha, grew increasingly depressed, culminating in her suicide by jumping off a bridge in 1960. This left Arthur alone with his alcoholic father, Henry, who was verbally and physically abusive. In 1964, Henry was found bludgeoned to death in an alley near a bar (presumably by Arthur, who was nineteen at the time).

After graduating college, Arthur worked as a high school teacher. He met Lorraine Hill and they had a daughter. After Arthur's relationship with Lorraine ended, he and Christine only met on holidays and her birthday.

Arthur then married Sally and they had two children -- Jonah and Rebecca.

At an unknown point, Arthur joined the organization known as Four Walls One Heart, which built houses across the country. He began to use these travels as an alibi for his kill cycles.

Michael C. Hall, the star of the franchise, previously hinted that anything is possible with the Dexter franchise in an interview with the Lipps Service podcast, he said: "I've learned to never say never about anything. The show ended in a pretty definitive way, but I don't have any date to mark when I'll pretend to play that guy again. I'm proud of the whole series and glad we revisited the character and gave the show the ending it needed."

It sounds like the Dexter series will eventually continue with a line of prequel series projects, and I’m looking forward to them! The Trinity Killer prequel could be a fascinating one! What do you think?
