There were so many cool twists and turns in Marvel’s most recent offering, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and one that has fans talking the most is the return of the character Darren Cross, who we knew as Yellowjacket from the first Ant-Man movie. We found out in the threequel that Darren had been shrunken down and launched into the Quantum Realm when he was expelled by Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang, and he was turned into M.O.D.O.K. by Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors).
The funniest part about the character was that in the process of being manipulated by the old tech, he was disproportionally shrunken and blown up, leaving him with a giant head and a weird, tiny body. In the film, while discovering his story, we actually see the character naked from behind, revealing his strange little butt!
The actor who plays the character of Darren/M.O.D.O.K., Corey Stoll, was asked about the scene in a recent interview with ComicBook, and he said:
"I wasn't aware of the fervor, but very glad to hear that. On the very first day I visited set, I went to the offices. They showed me all the art and the animatics. They showed me a brief animatic of that scene, and, I mean, I laughed hysterically. I thought it was so brilliant and funny. Then I heard that they were going to cut that scene, and I lobbied pretty hard for them to put it back in. I can't take credit for having that in there, but I will."
The film’s director, Peyton Reed, also talked about perfecting the comedic scene in an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, saying:
"Well, so MODOK has a very different butt than Thor and Hulk. That visual effects shot where we show it was something that struck us as very funny, this quick version and sort of grotesque. And I remember with every visual effect shot in the movie, you get the shot back from the vendor and you analyze it and give notes, and I'm gonna admit to you here in front of everybody that one of my notes in that shot was like, 'Oh, that's really great, but you need to see a little bit more of his butt crack in this.' That was an actual note given that everyone agreed with in the room and what you see in the movie is where we landed. So, I appreciate you asking about that."
So there you have it. While this movie has gotten some pretty mixed reviews, you’ve got to admit that this part of the story made you laugh! I know I got a kick out of it.
