Brie Larson and Iman Vellani will star alongside one another in the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels. The only part about this movie I’m actually looking forward to is seeing Iman Vellani back in the role of Ms. Marvel. While her series wasn’t as good as I hoped it would be, I do think that Vellani is great and absolutely charming in the role. I hope that as she continues to play this character, the projects she’s a part of will get better.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Larson praised the young actress as the future of the MCU, saying:

“Iman is the future. She is the perfect Ms. Marvel and the most incredible person and castmate. I’m so excited for her success and I’m so excited to see what she will do with her life because she can do anything she wants. She’s one of my favorite people on this earth.”

Larson also noted that one of the many reasons why she took on the role of Captain Marvel is so she would eventually get to work with the MCU’s Ms. Marvel. She said:

“A huge part of why I wanted to play Captain Marvel was because of Ms. Marvel and what that meant. To see that character realized by such a brilliant human with so much potential is just a really exciting thing.”

She then talked about her friendship with Vellani, saying:

“I feel like the big joke is always that you’re being schooled by people younger than you, so I’m sure there are ways that I’ve been able to be of service to her, but also at the same time, she teaches me so much every single day. I’m just grateful for her friendship.”

When previously talking about the movie, which also stars Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige shared his excitement for it, and said that Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan steals the show. He said: "There's something immensely powerful about seeing Monica & Kamala & Carol together in a frame. It's chill-inducing. They're so great together.” He went on to add:

"Kamala Khan, for instance, is a great new character in the pantheon. I'm very proud of the Ms. Marvel show. I also know — and this is a spoiler — she essentially steals The Marvels, which is coming out [July 28]. It makes me excited that people will, I hope, see that movie and then go back and revisit those shows on Disney+."

Feige went on to say: "The great thing about Kamala in her show, and now in this movie, is that she's not unlike Tom Holland's Peter Parker in Civil War. She can't believe she's with these other heroes, and can't believe that she finds herself in these places. And that's fun because we want to be that. I want to be that."

Nia DaCosta is directing the movie from a script written by Megan McDonnell. It’s been rumored that the movie will be heavily inspired by the Secret Invasion comic book storyline. This means there’s a good chance that it will tie into Marvel’s Secret Invasion Disney+ series. The movie is also said to “include many important MCU characters,” with the film being described as a "mini-Avengers film."

The Marvels will hit the theaters on November 10, 2023, as part of the MCU’s Phase Five.
