Sam Kench of Brickwall Pictures has released a fun video offering a film history crash course for cinephiles. The video goes through the 145-year history of movies and picks out one essential film from each year beginning with the pioneering Horse In Motion chronophotograph of 1878 and ending with the 2022 film Everything Everywhere All at Once.

I thought this was fascinating, and there are both film picks you’ll recognize, and maybe a few that you don’t, and some other interesting choices that are important to cinematic history. The video came with the following note:
