The dynamic duo of DC Studios’ James Gunn and Peter Safran continue to spill details and clarify their big plans for the highly-anticipated DC Cinematic Universe reset.
Fans have been curious if the reset would mean a complete overhaul of the DCU, and when a fan asked Gunn on Instagram if he was "rebooting the DCEU 100%," Gunn set the record straight with a clear "Nope."
Gunn confirmed that while The Flash will reset many things in the DCU, not everything will change and some characters will remain the same. He said: “Nope. Flash resets many things, not all things. Some characters remain the same some do not.”
As you know, Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller is staying the same with the series Waller, which is being developed. It was previously explained that the series is using the same actors and that it’s “a continuation of Peacemaker.” So, you can expect many of those characters to return. I imagine all of the Suicide Squad characters are going to stay the same and not change.
Then there’s also Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Zachary Levi’s Shazam!, and more that may get additional movies. The only characters we know that are not coming back for sure are Henry Cavil’s Superman and Ben Affleck’s Batman.
Safran even praised The Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Shazam! and said that these characters and portrayals are definitely not barred from the new DCU. He also emphasized that the new DC Universe will incorporate characters from the past but mostly cast anew.
The first phase of the DC Universe, called Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, promises to bring a multitude of movies and TV shows to the fans. Some of the exciting projects include Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a Swamp Thing film, and multiple TV shows. I guess we should prepare for a whole new level of DC epicness.
