It’s been a long time since I’ve seen anything on Saturday Night Live that has made me laugh, but this fake trailer for an adaptation of Mario Kart they produced was pretty awesome! The whole thing is a riff on HBO's The Last of Us series, which critics and audiences are loving, but with Mario Kart. Pedro Pascal plays Mario.
The comedy sketch gives us a fun look at what a Mario Kart would look like as a post-apocalyptic movie, and honestly if this were real… I’d watch it! This thing also has some solid production value. It’s awesome watching Pascal in this role, and I love when he dramatically delivers the line, "It's a' me, Mario."
Here’s SNL's synopsis for the spoof: "In a video game turned series, a trailer follows a group of people as they try to help a princess get to Rainbow Road.”
The three-minute sketch also stars Kenan Thompson as Bowser, Chloe Fineman as Princess Peach, Bowen Yang as Yoshi, and Mikey Day as Luigi. Enjoy the video!
