It’s been quite a crazy week for DC fans! There’s a lot of excitement and a lot of doubt about what James Gunn and Peter Safran are doing with DC Studios. This is just the beginning of their 8 to 10-year plan in which they will reboot DC heroes like Batman and Superman and introduce several new characters to the DC Cinematic Universe.
Gunn recently took to Twitter to give fans an idea of the specific comic book runs that serve as inspiration for the upcoming projects that he and his team are developing for Superman, Batman, Supergirl, and Swamp Thing, as well as the big-screen debut of Wildstorm’s team, the Authority.
You can check out Gunn’s Tweet below:
We're talked a lot about Woman of Tomorrow, but these are more of the comics inspiring #DCStudios and the new #DCU in these early days. That doesn't mean we're adapting all these comics, but that the feel, the look, or the tone of them are touchstones for our team. Check 'em out! pic.twitter.com/34KrVPeEL5

The first thing that Gunn mentions is Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King. He then goes on to share the cover art for All-Star Superman: The Deluxe Edition, Batman by Grand Morrison Omnibus Vol. 1, Absolute Swamp Thing by Alan Moore, and The Authority Omnibus by Warren Ellis.
It’s funny because Gunn previously shared a photo of a cheese plate with Morrison’s Batman Omnibus volumes in the background. Fans thought he was teasing the type of Batman movies that he might be developing, and look at that! They were right!
Gunn makes sure to point out in his tweet that they won’t be adapting these comics, they are using the “feel, the look, or the tone" as they develop the projects.
