This is an interesting surprise! Hulu has renewed the animated series Hit-Monkey for a second season! The news comes over a year after the first season of the series debuted back in November 2021.
The adult-themed series is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, and the story centers on a Japanese snow monkey who learns martial arts and embarks on a bloody-mission of revenge to annihilate those who killed his family. He teams up with the ghost of American assassin Bryce is also looking to get revenge on the Yakuza.
The new season will follow Hit-Monkey (Fred Tatasciore) and Bryce (Jason Sudeikis) “as they travel from Japan to New York City. Fred Tatasciore voices Hit-Monkey.” The returning voice cast also includes Olivia Munn as Akiko Yokohama and Ally Maki as Haruka. In addition, Leslie Jones will be joining the show for Season 2 in an undisclosed role.
The show was co-created by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, who also serve as executive producers. 20th Television Animation serves as the studio behind the series.
Hit-Monkey was one of four Marvel shows set up at Hulu by Jeph Loeb’s now-defunct Marvel Television unit. The other projects included MODOK, Tigra & Dazzler, and Howard the Duck. Hit-Monkey was the only one to survive, and I honestly wasn’t expecting it to! It’s a fun show, so it’s cool to see that we are getting a Season 2!
For its second season, the animated series will no longer carry the Marvel branding.
