Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy) is the latest actor to join the cast of Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming western series Bass Reeves. He will take on the role of a character named Garrett Montgomery, “a so-called posse man of the era who Bass hires for his riding know-how and expertise of the area.”

Hedlund joins the previously cast David Oyelowo, Dennis Quaid, Barry Pepper, Lauren E. Banks, Demi Singleton, Forrest Goodluck, Shae Whigham, and Grantham Coleman.

In the series, Oyelowo plays the legendary Wild West lawman Bass Reeves. Quaid plays Sherrill Lynn, a Deputy U.S. Marshall, and Pepper will play Esau Pierce, “the leader of the 1st Cherokee Mounted Rifles and a battle-tested warrior himself.”

The official description reads: “Reeves was known as the greatest frontier hero in American history and also believed to be the inspiration for ‘The Lone Ranger.’ He worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory, capturing over 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded.”

Hedlund recently completed production on the films Desperation Road opposite Mel Gibson and The Marsh King’s Daughter, co-starring Ben Mendelson and Daisy Ridley.

Bass Reeves is currently filming in Texas.
