Last week the shocking news was announced that Henry Cavill was exiting Netflix’s The Witcher, and he will not appear in Season 4. The role of Geralt of Rivia will now be filled by Liam Hemsworth, and the fans hated everything about this. Cavill was great in this role, and without his involvement, there now seems to be a huge lack of interest in returning to watch the series after the upcoming third season.

There were no details given as to why Cavill left the fantasy series, so most people assumed that he left to focus on playing Superman again in Man of Steel 2 and other projects like the Guy Ritchie film The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare. But, according to a new report from Redanian Intelligence, Cavill was thinking about leaving the show after Season 2 due to disagreements with the producers in regard to the show's content and Geralt's role. Cavill expressed his frustrations about this during the press tour for the second season. Here’s an example that was shared of what Cavill was saying:

"The toughest part for me was finding that balance between the showrunners' vision and my love for the books, and trying to bring that Geralt to the showrunners' vision. It's about treading a fine line there. It's the showrunners' story and so it's an adaptation. The tricky bit for me was finding Geralt from the books' place within that and being able to serve both as much as I could. The things that I pushed for, it was not necessarily just more dialogue. It was bringing a more book-accurate Geralt to the screen. [...] All of my asks and requests were along the lines of just being faithful to the source material."

Yeah, you can definitely see Cavill’s frustrations put out on display here. It’s a shame that his vision for the story was clashing with the showrunner’s vision. Now those creative differences are going to cost them, because Cavill left the show, and I doubt it will survive without him.

I’m not sure why the showrunners are so against staying true to the source material moving forward, but Cavill was constantly pushing for that for the series. If this report is true, it sounds like Cavill was just done with butting heads with the creative team. It’s a shame.
