It’s been four years since Michelle Yeoh’s Star Trek spinoff series Section 31 was announced. Like a lot of fans, I’ve been wondering if the project is happening! Well, don’t worry, according to Paramount Streaming chief programming officer Tanya Giles, the series is "still in development.”
The series is going to focus on Yeoh’s character, Philippa Georgiou, and it will expand “on the character’s current position as a member of Section 31, a shadowy intelligence agency operating within the Federation.”
Yeoh’s character was introduced in Star Trek: Discovery as the Captain of the USS Shenzhou and was killed off early on in Season 1. However, the character returned as her mirror-universe counterpart, Emperor Georgiou, who became involved with Starfleet’s Section 31. Section 31 is a covert intelligence and defense organization working on behalf of the United Federation of Planets.
Yeoh told previously talked about the show saying would be like the Discovery universe "but different. It’s wilder. It’s Mission: Impossible meets Guardians of the Galaxy in space."
That sounds like it will be a great Star Trek series! There’s no word on when it will actually happen, but it’s good to know that it’s still in development.
